2008 Match #2 - Forza Team Sunday!!!
This match was played at Blk 867A Tampines St 84. It was an open field and the pitch conditions were not ideal. Considering the amount we had to pay for the match, it wasn't really worth the money.
The game however, was interesting. Before it started, I guess we did write off ourselves a alittle, taking that the opponent were made up mainly of veterans from Tengah Airbase.
According to one of their former players, the opposition had been around for a good 8 years together, and had some pretty decent results before us.
So I don't suppose optimism could have sprouted anywhere near us, perhaps finding a decaying mushroom in antartica was more likely, taking into account our jinxed record so far. All losses.
But the game started out interestingly. Once again for a second game running, we were in the lead, 1-0 then 2-1 at half time. A first for as long as I can remember.
Then we took a 3-1 lead. At this point, a crucial penalty miss cost us, and then the decline started....We lost the lead.
At 3-3, we fumbled in the last min of play to concede a goal. It was really hard to take and everyone was a little dissapointed.
But I guess, compared to the way we lost our games in 2007, I am guessing it will only be a matter of time before we break this jinx and go on a winning streak.
We did take good control of this game, and this little rustiness could be shaken off soon. It would really take a team effort to make it happen.
I take heart in the fact that we are still trying after results like this - and we'll try again till we get it right.
Forza Team Sunday!!!
Team: Mervin, Marcus (own goal), George, Aston (1), Kok Meng, Jack, WT, Adrian (1), Boon, Joseph, Justin (1), Zul, Aaron, Marc.
2008 - The First Game
The match-up was agasint a familiar opponent, our last game being at Fuchun Sec Sch on 25 Nov 2007 - which happened to be our last game for 2007 before the festive break from Dec 2007 to Feb 2008.
Having lost the previous two meetings 1-3 and then 1-2, the third encounter was a little familiar - a case for revenge. But in perspective, it was still a different line up that came up agaisnt the opposition. A third game agaisnt the same opponent but a different starting 11.
The 2.5 month break did us some good, but some players were also abit rusty and was getting back to form with this friendly.
The Match had us taking the lead 4 times, 1-0, then 2-1, with the score levelled at 2-2 during half time. After the break, we kept loosing the leads at 3-2 and finally at 4-3, all being spunned to eventually go out with a 7-4 lost.
Of course, it didn't help that we conceded at least 4 goals through the fumbling of the keepers, but with some hindsight, a good, steady keeper would have kept those goals out and it would have been a victory or at least a draw.
We need a steady GK.
But it was really a brilliant effort this time round. Good start for the year if we look beyond the result, and put our attention to the dynamism and new found style of play. The Goals are coming.
Let's hope the scoring continues.
Team: Aston, George, Mervin, Kok Meng, Wenhao, Justin(1), Adrian, Benny, Boon, Marcus(1), Don(1), Zul(1), Moses, Lewis.
