Flashing Amber!

Westwood Secondary School hosted two teams that have made their debut jerseys. Team Sunday in Orange & White, and the Poly Boys in all Navy Blue.

The match started with the Poly Boys teething their way into the heart of our defence as we tried to settle in during the first 15mins. It was hard to imagine conceding an early goal, but somehow what seemed like an offside was let through to allow the Poly Boys to poke home a goal to make it 0-1.

As we settled in, we started to control the game with such domination that the opponents at some stage found it hard to breathe. The air of authority rode it's course and a majestic volley from Adrian just inside the penalty area tied the scores at 1 a piece.

The control of the game continued, however, a fine exhibition of individual flair by one of the Poly Boys broke down through the right. At this instance, what seemed like a miss pass fooled even the keeper to trickle into the net - returning the lead to the Boys.

The soft goal did no wonders to our spirits as we took charge for the rest of the first half and restored the tie with a well taken shot by Adrian from a similar angle to make it 2-2.

In the dying moments of the first half, a corner swung in by Benny saw Mervin making a connection that nearly ripped the net apart. For the first time in the game we had taken the lead: 3-2.

The Boys opened the second half brightly, marauding forward. They had in particular, 2 players who were pretty impressive - and it was these 2 players whom we would eventually regret not having marked more tightly.

2 goals that decided the tie will eventually besiege us.

The first, came from a corner that Lionel failed to catch, though it appeared he had been fouled. After which, we nearly conceded another from a pass that split the defence before a courageous last ditch tackle from Marcus took the ball out for a corner.

However, fate couldn't be changed, as a one on one - which was the result from a poor call by the refree on an offside decision - gave the opponents the lead.

At 3-4, there was still pretty much everything to play for.

However, our persistence forward nearly resulted in another goal from a counter attack. The saving grace this time came from Aston, who made a superb online clearance that kept us in the game.

We pressed forth for the elusive equaliser, but unfortunately, the amber was flashing and the goal never came.

As Danny Blanchflower once said, "Everything in our favor was against us."

We have fought well, and we live to fight another day.

Squad: Aston, Mervin(1), Marcus, Jeff, Adrian (2), Jason, Jack, Benny, Boon, Lionel, Yong Tai, Ben.

Reference Note:
Robert Dennis "Danny" Blanchflower (b. February 10, 1926, Belfast - d. December 9, 1993) was a footballer, football manager, and journalist who captained Spurs during their double-winning season of 1961. He is remembered as one of the great tacticians in the history the game, renowned for his passing, and as an outstanding right-half.

Notes on Improvement:
(The following comments are not meant to criticise individual players but to help each of us improve our own game, therefore helping the team progress. Take it Objectively)

Game play was an improvement on previous games.

However, Jason and Jack needs to spread play more to the wings, left and right.

Adrian needs to come back and help out in defence more.

Jeff needs to pace himself better during the game, no need everytime chiong forward.

We can still improve on our passing and movement.

Feel free to help improve the team.
